Personal pace as interaction with body and environment
Last place becomes a social scene
Finish time becomes entangled with looks, expectations, and a history of comparison. A runner may fear delaying others, appearing weak, or becoming an object of patronising support.
Pace does not measure worth
Speed reflects training, age, health, terrain, weather, sleep, and purpose. One result cannot define character or the right to call oneself a runner.
Support without theatre
Ask what is wanted: waiting at the finish, walking the final metres together, sending a message, or leaving space. Support does not turn a slower participant into a rescue project.
Continue or stop
Finishing never outranks safety. Acute pain, fainting, chest pain, marked unusual breathlessness, or disorientation require stopping and help.
Working with shame
Separate fact, prediction, and cost: “I am last”; “they will judge me”; “therefore I am exceeding my capacity.” Then return to the pace that preserves choice.
After the finish
Review more than time: what supported you, where risk rose, which interaction helped, and what preparation should change.
The MriyaRun philosophy
A distance does not assign a place in a human hierarchy. It reveals the meeting of capacity, conditions, and choice on a particular day.
“Pace is information about a person meeting conditions, not a verdict on human worth.”
Reflection tool
To record the facts, bodily response, emotion, comparison, and next decision, you can use EQ Emotion Journal.
